The Cats of Ireland by Séamus Mullarkey – Book Review

I was recently contacted by Irish author Séamus Mullarkey (who lives in New York), and he was so kind to send me a copy of his book “The Cats of Ireland”.

Right from the beginning, I wasn’t able to put the book down, and the only reason I read it in three sessions rather than one, was because I got distracted. By my cats, naturally!

Séamus has done his research alright, on all the little stories about Irish cats that he writes about in this tome, and you will find lots of interesting tidbits about cats in Irish history, folklore, the church, Irish celebrities who have cats, adventurous cats, feline facts and figures, and even a page about Irish drinking songs for cat lovers, such as “Whiskers in the Jar”.

I was proofreading while enjoying the content, and despite some small typos (which Séamus surely will change for the next edition), the book is really well written, with subtle humour in many places, and the flow of it reads very well.

If you are a cat lover plus a lover of all things Irish (or even if you are not a fan of the latter, but just a general cat lover), you will absolutely adore this fantastic little book! Of course, it will also make a great gift for any cat lover you know….
